SondorBlue, The Brook & the Bluff
Nov 15 @ 7:30 pm

SondorBlue:

The members of Charleston, South Carolina’s SondorBlue have the markers of the so-called ‘New Bohemian’ movement – with focus on a healthy lifestyle, brotherly love, and individuality. From TIME Magazine in the US to THE GUARDIAN in the UK, people are talking about the return to this free-thinking way of life. While SondorBlue is a rock band writing tight pop songs, they share the relentless touring schedule, the fan culture and the raw musicianship of artists on the ever-expanding jam band scene.

The band is comprised of three exceptionally talented vocalists who could each easily front their own bands – Connor Hollifield on lead guitar, John Sheehan on guitar and keyboards and Andrew Halley at center stage on bass – with drummer, Drew Lewis holding down a clockwork backbeat. They come together to create harmonies unlike any you have ever heard. Connor explained of the arrangement “We had all had our own songwriting side projects when we were younger, but when we came together to play music — that’s when we were the happiest.” Sheehan added “I wanted to share this experience with my best friends. I knew we could go a lot further together than any of us could alone.”

If longevity for bands is determined by their ability to pull off their recorded material in a live setting, then SondorBlue is set up for a long, fruitful career. They have been aggressively touring all along the East Coast and make pulling off their complex harmonies and playing their intricate arrangements look easy. The band loves to play live. “It is one of my favorite things,” says Lewis. “It has been great to watch the songs develop as we take them out of the studio and onto the stage.”

“We’ve been lucky to connect with some great people on the road and they have been enormously supportive,” explains Halley. ‘We’ve been able to replicate some of our experience through social media, and it has been rewarding to engage and keep in touch with everyone we’ve met along the way.” It shows – the band’s single, “OPINIONS,” has over 173k streams on Spotify and a track off their 2016 REALOMETER EP release, “The Moon And You,” has over 194k streams. BuzzArtists called their musical combination “swirling, harmony-driven indie rock,” though you might want to add a touch of ‘pop’ to the band’s ever-evolving recipe. With YOU WILL FIND LOVE ON ASHLEY AVENUE, the band’s brand new EP, they bring context to their recent hit, “OPINIONS,” by wearing their Beatles influence on their proverbial sleeve. Gorgeous melodies, harmonies and expert instrumentation are the hallmarks of the other tracks “Escape!,” “A Beautiful Dream,” “I hate living like this” and the single “Ashley Ave.”

As the band’s calling card is their amazing live show, they have recorded many sessions available online (B-Side Sessions, WSBF Live Sessions, Indaba Music Sessions and Break Thru Radio) in addition to a performance at Google’s NYC HQ . SondorBlue have had their music featured in diverse xoutlets like Relix Magazine, Guitar Player Magazine, What Youth, Culture Collide and Popdust (who called them the new Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young – a reference that has found considerable support among the press in general).

SondorBlue are poised for big things in the future. Look for them at a venue near you.

The Brook & the Bluff:

Established in Birmingham, AL, The Brook & The Bluff is a four-man band that consists of frontman Joseph Settine, drummer John Canada, guitarist Alec Bolton and bassist Fred Lankford.

The guys have quickly become recognized for their evocative blend of instrumental talent and vocal harmony. These elements are readily apparent in the band’s debut track, “Masks.” Having initially gained momentum via Spotify, the song has helped spur the band forward in their musical pursuits.

The group’s first year as a full band has been widely successful. From charting on Spotify’s US and Canada Viral 50 Playlists, performing at the NAMM shows in both Nashville and Anaheim, and selling out shows in Atlanta, Birmingham, Huntsville, Nashville and Opelika, the band has had an exhilarating first year.

Originally an acoustic duo, Alec and Joseph started turning heads in local venues with clean vocals and expert guitar work. John noticed the talent and potential of the duo and offered to play drums and sing with the guys. Soon after, he officially joined the group, expanding their sound with driving rhythm and an added voice. The trio instantly locked in and have been playing together ever since. With their new bassist Fred Lankford, The Brook and The Bluff relocated to Nashville in 2018.

Southside Watt
Nov 17 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

‘Roots, Rock, Blues, Rap, and Country influences merged together to form a toe tapping and head bobbing show you have to see!  When brothers and friends starting combining their decades of musical performance and passion with Charlotte’s booming social scene, they discovered a recipe for music mash-ups that fans had never heard before. They took traditional bluegrass instruments, added beat dropping drums, a screaming hot ’52 telecaster, and hypnotizing lyrics and harmonies, and found their fans dancing, drinking, and grooving along like no other band in Charlotte!

Their life-long beloved friend, Sabrina Watt, booked the band for their first paying gig at a Cystic Fibrosis charity event. Without an official name, she dubbed them ‘The Accidentals’.  As years went by, ‘The Accidentals’ formed a monthly happy hour every second Saturday at Sugar Creek Brewing Company on Southside Drive. Every second Saturday from 2:00 – 5:00 loyal fans came out to get transported from the mundane to the madness!

As ‘The Accidentals’ got tighter and the grooves got deeper, the boys headed to FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama to record some original tunes.  There the history, the magic, and the famous water from the Tennessee River created a sound they are proud to call their own.  During the production process, it was discovered that another ‘The Accidentals’ band existed and the boys were forced to change their name.  They looked to the 2 things that brought them to that point (Sabrina Watt and Southside Drive) and Southside Watt was born.

Sabrina’s life ended far too soon, and she is deeply missed. Southside Watt will always remember her impact on this world, and a portion of the proceeds from our shows are donated to Cystic Fibrosis research in her honor.

So come out and see ‘The Greatest Band that Never Practices’, and be a part of what will truly be a unique, one of a kind show, that is not found anywhere else!

IAmDynamite, Bizness Suit
Nov 17 @ 10:30 pm

IAMDYNAMITE is the spirited, anthemic duo of Christopher Martin and Chris Phillips, two Michigan high school friends raised on the Seattle sound and 80s pop – anything with a beat that makes them move is an influence.

IAMDYNAMITE returns with an amazing follow up album to SUPERMEGAFANTASTIC in Wasa Tusa. This new record shows the creative reach IAMDYNAMITE has always possessed. The album highlights their melodic, hook laden songwriting skills and delivers on all emotional fronts.

When asked the difference between SUPERMEGAFANTASTIC and Wasa Tusa, Chris Martin commented, “Our first record was more of a documentation of our live show. This is our first record where the ultimate goal was to make cool and moving recordings, where the recording was the art form, not just a documentation of some songs. Our goal was to make recordings that make you feel something.”

Chris Phillips commented, ‘We took a no holds barred approach when recording this album. We needed to make a great album first and foremost. Our first album was written specifically for just drums and guitar, and to fully grab the attention of the listener and make them move. Wasa Tusa is just the next step for us as a band, it’s not just drums and guitar…. it’s so much more!’ Wasa Tusa is full of the catchy, powerful, and harmonic songs IAMDYNAMITE is known for, while showing a wider dynamic range that the band is fully capable of.

Wasa Tusa was recorded at Orb Studio in Austin, TX and finished back home in Michigan. Produced by Matt Noveskey, as well as IAMDYNAMITE, this time around the band has pushed themselves as writers, producers, and performers.

The first single, “In The Summer,” is poised to surpass the chart success IAMDYNAMITE experienced with “Where Will We Go.” That track spent over 20 weeks in the top 20 of the Billboard Alternative chart, a huge success for a debut single from the virtually, up to that point, unknown band out of Ann Arbor, MI. Two years of nonstop touring and airplay inspired so many new believers. Now the band stands poised to benefit from all those miles after delivering Wasa Tusa with 10 new tracks that will not only energize the existing fan base, but will create an even wider path of discovery for Chris and Chris.

Mac DeMarco
Nov 20 @ 7:30 pm

Before you ancients out there turn your heads and scoff at the premise of a twenty-something rock-and-roll goofball calling himself an old-anything, consider this: said perpetrator, he who answers to the name Mac DeMarco, has spent the better part of his time thus far writing, recording, and releasing an album of his own music pretty much every calendar flip, and pretty much on his own. The fresh meat you’re now feasting on, This Old Dog, makes for his fifth in just over half a decade—bringing the total to 3 LPs and 2 EPs. According to the DMV, MacBriare Samuel Lanyon DeMarco is 26. But in working-dog years, ol’ Mac here could easily qualify for social security. To stay gold, turns out all he needed was some new tricks.

Though used to and pretty happy with that annual grind, it was a little space—in time, location, and method—that inspired DeMarco while making the record. Moving from his isolated Queens home to a house in Los Angeles helped give the somewhat transient Canada-native a broader base, and a few more months on his calendar to create did their job as well. Arriving in California with a grip of demos he’d written in New York, he realized after a few months of setting up his new shop—complete with a few new toys—that the gap was giving him perspective (insert tooth joke here).

“This one was spaced out,” DeMarco says. “I demoed a full album, and as I was moving to the West Coast I thought I’d get to finishing it quickly. But then I realized that moving to a new city and starting a new life takes time. And it was weird, because usually I just write, record, and put it out; no problem. But this time, I wrote them and they sat. When that happens, you really get to know the songs. It was a different vibe.”

DeMarco wrote some demos for This Old Dog on an acoustic guitar, an unusual yet eye-opening method for him. “The majority of this album is acoustic guitar, synthesizer, some drum machine, and one song is electric guitar. So this is a new endeavor for me.”

And from the outset, from the pops and clicks of the CR-78 and acoustic strums on the album-opening “My Old Man,” the synth-drenched beauty of the second track, “This Old Dog,” and that ironic recurring word itself, it’s clear that DeMarco’s bag is filled with new tricks indeed. This Old Dog is rooted more in a synth-base than any of his previous releases, but he is careful not to let that tactic overshadow the other instruments and overall “unplugged” mood of the work. In fact, DeMarco recognizes that he might share more than just a geographical flight-path with a certain Canadian-cum-Californian songwriter.

Jamorah at Smokey Joe’s Cafe
Nov 26 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm
Jamorah is made up of four musicians that love to jam. Influenced by many genres, they get together on Mondays at Smokey Joe’s Cafe in Charlotte NC to relax and have fun playing the music they love the most.
They have bands of their own, and live lives on their own, but on Mondays they release their inner souls and let the music play the band.
Guests come on a regular basis and they allow the band to open up and let the instruments do the talking.
Guitar, Keys, Bass, Drums are the root and are joined by percussion, horns, and more to make it a full sound.
Expect to hear Rock, Blues, Jazz, Reggae, and Latin styles. Of course, they all share the love for the psychedelic sounds of Jerry Garcia and the mastery of Frank Zappa which makes it for an interesting medley of jams. When the ‘latin mafia’ show up with percussion, there is a latin vibe much like Santana.
