La Santa Cecilia and Chócala
Jul 17 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

La Santa Cecilia consists accordionist and requintero Jose Carlos, bassist Alex Bendana, percussionist Miguel Ramirez and lead vocalist Marisoul, whose captivating voice sings about love, loss and heartbreak. Their influences range from Miles Davis to The Beatles, Zeppelin to Janis Joplin and Mercedes Sosa to Ramon Ayala. Ther common love of music and openness to all genres led them to the concept of La Santa Cecilia in 2007 – named after the patron saint of musicians.

Chócala is a sonic amalgamation of Latin rhythms, rock, and jazz with a touch of tropical psychedelia resulting in an experimental yet approachable sound with an infectious groove. The band is fronted by keyboardist Liza Ortiz who’s powerful lyrics about self-assessment and affirmation are earnest, heartfelt, and entirely in Spanish. Michael Anderson (saxophone), Davey Blackburn (percussion), and Claudio Ortiz (bass) playfully harmonize and explore polyrhythmic soundscapes, offering up novel yet familiar experiences with each song.

Jamorah at Smokey Joe’s Cafe
Aug 27 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm
Jamorah is made up of four musicians that love to jam. Influenced by many genres, they get together on Mondays at Smokey Joe’s Cafe in Charlotte NC to relax and have fun playing the music they love the most.
They have bands of their own, and live lives on their own, but on Mondays they release their inner souls and let the music play the band.
Guests come on a regular basis and they allow the band to open up and let the instruments do the talking.
Guitar, Keys, Bass, Drums are the root and are joined by percussion, horns, and more to make it a full sound.
Expect to hear Rock, Blues, Jazz, Reggae, and Latin styles. Of course, they all share the love for the psychedelic sounds of Jerry Garcia and the mastery of Frank Zappa which makes it for an interesting medley of jams. When the ‘latin mafia’ show up with percussion, there is a latin vibe much like Santana.
