Haywire at Mac’s Speed Shop
Jun 29 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

South End Location!

Haywire formed in Charlottetown in 1981 by David Rashed, Paul MacAusland, Marvin Birt, Scott Roberts and Ronnie Switzer. In 1984 they won the Q104 Homegrown Vol. 1 contest; the first prize was the chance to record a single, but they took the opportunity to invest their own money and record a 5-song EP, which eventually sold over 5,000 copies in the Maritimes. In 1985 they won the Labatt’s Battle of the Bands, and used the $10,000 first prize to record more material. While the band member lineup had been largely unaltered from the start, drummer Sean Kilbride was the fourth drummer in the group’s short history. Ron ‘Bumble’ LeBlanc had replaced the original Haywire drummer Scott Roberts in 1984. He remained with the band through their demo stages, EP, and can be heard playing on two cuts of the band’s first record with Attic. LeBlanc was replaced by Mac Cole when he decided to move on from the group and pursue a formal education. Cole only played two months with the band, when Haywire’s long-time friend Kilbride became available for the job. In the summer of 1986 the group signed up Kilbride and successfully pursued a record contract with Attic.

Dipset
Jun 29 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
The first commercial appearance of the group was on Cam’ron’s 2000 album S.D.E., released on Epic Records. During this period, various members of the original group consisting of Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Freekey Zekey, and others, were first signed together as a group to Roc-A-Fella Records from 2001 to 2004, though they are now signed to their own label, Diplomat Records. Each individual artist, however is signed to a different label, including E1 Music, Asylum, and Def Jam, among others.

The group came to further popularity in 2002 with the release of Cam’ron’s third album, Come Home With Me. The lead singles were platinum hits ‘Oh Boy’ and ‘Hey Ma’, which both featured group mate Juelz Santana. The group followed Cam’ron’s solo album shortly after with their debut album Diplomatic Immunity released in 2003, which featured remixes of both songs, as well as lead single ‘Dipset Anthem’ which peaked at #64 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The double-disc album was a success and quickly became certified gold by RIAA under two months after its release. By the time of the release of their 2004 followup, Diplomatic Immunity 2, additional members Hell Rell, 40 Cal., and J. R. Writer had joined the group.

Hayes Carll
Jun 29 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

I’m a singer-songwriter.
I think “Lovers and Leavers” comes closer to reflecting that than any other record I’ve made.
I didn’t worry about checking boxes, making sure there was something here for everybody, or getting on the radio.
I just took some much needed deep breaths and let them out on tape.
It’s been a while since my last album by some measurements of time. Not “history of the universe time”, or “getting a bill through congress time”, but in the lives of dogs and recording artists, five years and fifty-three days is only a little less than an eternity.
I went through a divorce. I fell in love.
Changes were made, realizations were realized, and life was lived.
But, I kept on writing songs, on my own and with a cast of accomplished characters who combined their own stories and perspectives with mine.
Songs about my friends.
Songs about my son.
Songs about beginnings and endings.
Songs about songs.
Songs about acceptance and regret.
Songs about lovers and leavers.
With these songs in hand, I needed a co-conspirator to help me get them to you.
I called on Joe Henry, a gentleman poet and an elegant artist who seemed a trustworthy steward for my collection.
We recorded this record live in five days, using just an acoustic guitar, a mix of bass, percussion, pianos and organs, and a touch of pedal steel.
I didn’t have one song that I knew would be a sing along or would make people dance. I felt vulnerable in a way that I hadn’t in a long time. But I got what I wanted – a record with space, nuance, and room to breathe. It felt right for my art. It felt right for my life.
“Lovers and Leavers” isn’t funny or raucous. There are very few hoots and almost no hollers.
But it is joyous, and it makes me smile.
No, it’s not my “Blood on the Tracks,” nor is it any kind of opus.
It’s my fifth record — a reflection of a specific time and place.
It is quiet, like I wanted it to be.
Like I wanted to be.

Late Bloomer w/ TKO Faith Healer, Faye
Jun 29 @ 9:00 pm – 11:30 pm
Late Bloomer: On Late Bloomer’s third full length, Waiting, the band have truly come into their own with an achingly human record that explores the crushing uncertainty of adulthood through a mix of hook-driven guitar rock and punk urgency. The album centers on ever-changing perspectives, with all three members contributing to the writing process to utilize their personal narratives, as well as points-of-view completely outside their own. While much of Waiting’s core revolves around the anxiety and confusion of everyday life, sonically the album finds the Charlotte, NC-based band more confident and focused than ever. After honing their sound through their 2013 debut and 2014’s lauded Things Change, the band teamed with producer/engineer Justin Pizzoferreto (Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, Speedy Ortiz) on Waiting. The result effortlessly blends each members’ seemingly disparate influences into a dynamic sound that ranges from roaring to tender—often within the same track. The fuzzy familiarity of college rock effortlessly collides with the intensity of punk and hardcore, all serving to propel the band’s biggest choruses to date.

TKO Faith Healer: Musique de magnétisme animal.
Faye: Just three humans playing the music our puppies wish they could play…
Lenny Federal Band at The Comet Grill
Jun 29 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

You can’t talk about The Lenny Federal Band without mentioning The Comet Grill, the Dilworth dive where they hold court each Friday night. Make your way through the smokers standing outside, duck through the front door, and you’ll find yourself next to the makeshift stage. On the wall is an old photograph of Federal looking like a young Kris Kristofferson. He even sounds like Kristofferson. The rough, road-weary voice is part of the persona. So is the long, gray ponytail.

Steven Metz
Jun 29 @ 10:00 pm – 11:30 pm

The high-energy music of Steven Metz and his band has found inspiration from a variety of sources. Born in the mountains of North Carolina, raised in the swamps of Florida, blessed by Memphis blues, and refined in Nashville, TN, his visceral writing style presents listeners with powerful lyrics and memorable melodies. The results are songs that can be gritty and soulful, edgy and energetic, or introspective and emotional. Brilliant entertainers at heart, Steven Metz and the band maintain an active tour schedule, and can be found at fairs and festivals, charity events, and venues across the southeast. Past performances include the Pompano Beach Seafood Fest, Memphis Italian Festival, and the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam Southern Original Challenge. Armed with an impressive list of covers, the Steven Metz Band blends classic and contemporary country, rock, and popular standards to provide audiences with memorable, dynamic and wildly entertaining shows! Steven’s music is a great choice for the avid country fan seeking a new and exciting musical experience.

The Blues Beatles
Jun 30 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Blues Beatles started during the breaks of the rehearsals of Today – an original band that Marcos Viana, Flavio Naves, Lancaster Ferreira, Bruno Falcão and Fred Barley started in 2010. Marcos, the singer, would invariably pick up his acoustic guitar and start playing Beatles songs. The other members of the band were amazed at how natural the songs sounded, as if he had written them himself. Being blues players the rest of the band started adding their blues twist to these “break songs”. One day Lancaster said: “why don’t we mix these two things we love to play? We could call this Blues Beatles!” Everyone loved the idea and together they started the Blues Beatles in 2013.

Blac Youngta was born Samuel Benson in April, 1990 in Memphis, Tennessee. The 26 year old rapper is signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG record label. He released his single hit called Heavy in 2014. This song originated from the album Fast Bricks 3, which is his third mixtape. Yo Gotti became interested with Youngsta, seeing as they’re from the same region, and this led to Youngsta going on tour with Gotti for two months. Bright Star
Jun 30 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm

From Grammy, Emmy and Academy-award winning Steve Martin and Grammy award-winning Edie Brickell comes BRIGHT STAR, the five-time Tony Nominated new Broadway musical that the New York Times called ‘a shining achievement.’ Directed by Tony winner Walter Bobbie and inspired by a real event, this original musical tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ‘40s. Propelled by an ensemble of onstage musicians and dancers, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion, beautiful melodies and powerfully moving performances. BRIGHT STAR, as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful, is “Broadway’s most beautiful show” (WABC).
