Sufjan Stevens typically is able to keep fans interested in between albums, and this past year has proven that yet again. Although his last studio album (Carrie & Lowell) came out back in 2015, Stevens started putting out a handful of new material last year. First up, he put out a live album from his most recent tour. After that we got the collaboration album Planetarium. He followed that up with The Greatest Gift (a mixtape of stuff from the Carrie & Lowell sessions). And then he shared two new songs written for the film Call Me By Your Name, as well as a one-off single titled “Tonya Harding.” Whew.
There have still been no plans announced concerning a full new album’s worth of material, but we should still consider ourselves fortunate that he’s given us this much. We are also fortunate that Stevens headed to the radio show Live From Here with Chris Thile to perform four songs with an assortment of musicians. He played through his most recent 3 releases (the two songs from Call Me By Your Name and “Tonya Harding”) as well as an older song “Heirloom.” Check out all the beautiful performances right below here.
