Dreampop duo Beach House are gearing up for the announcement of their forthcoming studio album with the release of another new single. Previously, the band shared the excellent new song “Lemon Glow,” last month. Now they’ve given us yet another blissful track in the form of new single “Dive.”
The new single “Dive” starts off in a mellow, hazy way with Victoria Legrand singing on top of a wash of synth sounds and light guitar strums. About halfway through, the song then amps up and gets much more upbeat with the introduction of the drums and more pronounced guitar riffing. It’s a great sound for a band who have alternated between low-key mellowness and more grand, upbeat pop. Based solely on these two new singles, the new Beach House album sounds like it might be some of the best music released this year.
Preceding the release of these new songs, Beach House released a great album of b-sides just last year. B-Sides and Rarities collected tracks from the earliest stages of Beach House’s career. And although it spanned years and was sort of an odds and ends collection, it remained a tightly constructed work that stands on its own. That LP seemed like the closing of a chapter in beach House’s discography, and at the time no one knew when a new album would be coming. But with the release of “Lemon Glow” in February, the band shared that they indeed had a new album’s worth of material ready to go this year. And so far, they’ve made it clear that this new phase in the sound of Beach House is going to be really exciting.
Although the new LP has yet to be officially announced, we may have some hints about it. If you notice in the video below there appears to be album artwork and maybe even the title of the album. Is it called 7? Looks like that just might be the case. As of yet, Beach House have not provided any official details.
