Gorillaz just recently announced their quick return with the upcoming album The Now Now. The new LP comes just a year after their last full length, Humanz. That album was marked by its heavy use of featured artists, which tended to rub fans the wrong way. And already it seems that the new LP will be more of a return to form, with the focus being much more on leader Damon Albarn. A week ago, Gorillaz shared two new songs from The Now Now. Both tended to be much more summery, with heavier use on 80’s-esque sounds. And now they’ve shared yet another new song that follows exactly in those same patterns.
The new single “Sorcererz” sort of marries the styles previous two songs. We get a more packed soundscape of synths alongside some nice bass and guitar work. It also contains a lot of Albarn’s own vocals as the Gorillaz character 2-D, which is always nice to hear. Even though the singles so far haven’t hit very hard, they at least do sound a fair bit more put together than anything on Humanz. Give a listen to “Sorcererz” below to hear for yourself.
The Now Now is out June 29. Pre-order it now.
