Australian psychedelic hard rock oddballs King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard made a statement towards the end of last year claiming they would release five new albums in 2017. So far, they’ve been adamantly sticking to that promise. The first release came in February with Flying Microtonal Banana, an album whose theme was built around explorations in microtonal tuning. Then in June the band released Murder of the Universe, a high concept album that explored, well, the murder of the universe. And then just a couple of months ago, in August, the band released another new album called Sketches of Brunswick East. That one was in collaboration with the Mild High Club and explored a jamming jazzy style. And now, the band have started teasing their fourth release of the year.
Although no official announcement or album title has been put out, the band quietly released a new 10 minute song today called “Crumbling Castle.” It’s difficult to say what this new album will explore in terms of genre or concept, but based on this track, it seems to be a blending of styles from some of their best albums. Listen to the track below.
Surely this does indeed mean album number four in the year-long five album cycle is imminent. We’ll keep you updated as soon as King Gizzard announces. In the meantime, pick up the previous three 2017 releases here.
